Abstract

This research discovered which category of amateur pornographic films, heterosexual, homosexual, or transsexual, contain the most depictions of exhibitionism. This research is important because exhibitionists may be inspired by pornography to exhibit their genitals in public. There have been no studies that prove that use of pornography containing exhibitionism leads to actual exhibitionism, however, several studies link exhibitionism with other sex crimes, and link pornography with those same sex crimes. By determining which category of pornography most frequently depicts exhibitionism, future researchers may be able to understand which viewers receive the most messages about exhibitionism and could possibly be more prone to exhibitionism. In this research viewers watched thirty pornographic films of free, online, amateur pornography. We predicted that all of these categories would depict exhibitionism similarly in frequency and in the type of exhibitionism. Our prediction was incorrect. By far, the category that contained the greatest amount of exhibitionism was homosexual films (90%). Only 10% of heterosexual films depicted exhibitionism, and no transsexual films depicted it. The types of exhibitionism depicted in homosexual films and the heterosexual film were different. The heterosexual film depicted courtship disorder, which, in reality, often involves the victimization of women.
