Abstract

English Abstract: This paper provides an analysis of the convergence between theatrical spectacle and spectacular politics in Shakespeare's tragedy 'Julius Caesar'. Starting from a review of James Shapiro's contextualization of the play in contemporary Elizabethan politics, the metatheatrical and reflexive aspects of the play are stressed. 'Julius Caesar' is revealed as a reflection both on the theatricality of politics, and on the dramatic possibilities it provides for an intensification of the theatrical experience.
