Abstract

In the aftermath of the 2014 World Cup, it is time to focus on the disgraceful behaviour and antics of its organising body, FIFA. FIFA rode roughshod over Brazil's sovereignty, and is now in the spotlight over corruption allegations with regard to its awarding of future World Cups to Russia and, bizarrely, Qatar. FIFA also seems to be turning a blind eye to human rights abuses in Qatar, in stark contrast with its overbearing concern for the needs of its sponsors.
