Abstract
English Abstract: A Chilean born today can expect to live about 80 years. This figure is striking when compared with the 55 who expect to live one born in 1950. While this substantial increase in life expectancy is a great achievement, it also brings new challenges, mainly to ensure good health for a growing number of people living beyond 65 years.
