Abstract

The Inter-American System of Human Rights, one of the three main regional human rights systems, was created under the auspices of the Organization of American States. This article describes the historical background of the system as well as the principal functions of its main supervisory bodies: the Inter-American Commission and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights.
