2013 saw a considerable amount of activity relating to Treaty settlements. Two settlement statutes were passed, and eight pieces of legislation were introduced, with some of these being very significant (including the Te Urewera-Tuhoe Bill and the Te Tau Ihu Claims Settlement Bill). Many of these pieces of legislation are focused on the idea of co-governance, drawing from the principles of the Waikato River Settlement.
