Abstract

Humor can be a potent weapon in the battle against evil. Consider, for example, that satirizing racists, sexists, bullies, and other wicked people can sometimes be more effective than taking legal action. Today’s television writers, screenwriters, and comics often use humor as a tool to make the world a better place. So it should come as no surprise that the Tanakh (Torah, Nevi’im and Ketubim), our oldest literary document, does the same. Numerous examples of Humor in Tanakh are provided.

Keywords: Biblical humor, Torah, Humor, Balaam, Jonah.
