Abstract

The objectives of this research are to evaluate reliability of the 10 scales of the Learning and Study Strategies Inventory (LASSI) and to examine the factor structure underlying the LASSI. The research involved a sample of 220 pre-university students in Malaysia. The LASSI is a self-reported inventory which evaluates learning strategies of students. The results revealed that coefficient alphas of the LASSI scales were smaller than those reported in the users’ manual. And, the results of exploratory factor analysis with different extraction techniques suggested that the LASSI had more than 10 factors. The LASSI is a complex inventory which needs to be investigated further and to be tested in different cultural populations.

Keywords: LASSI, learning strategies, psychometric properties
