El Proceso Haber-Bosch En La Sociedad Agroindustrial: Peligros Y Alternativas (The Haber-Bosch Process in the Agro-Industrial Society: Dangers and Alternatives)

Abstract

Spanish Abstract: Pocas veces la ciencia y la política han tenido tanto en común como en el proceso Haber-Bosch. Esta síntesis industrial de nitrógeno es la base de la agroindustria y participa activamente de la industria de la guerra, entre otros renglones económicos. Este artículo pretende mostrar lo que hay detrás del uso intensivo de fertilizantes químicos provenientes de este proceso. Las consecuencias van más allá de la salud y el bienestar de los individuos, trascienden a las comunidades y alcanzan a las generaciones futuras. Las alternativas existen y se hallan al alcance de la mano. Asumirlas, no obstante, supone un replanteamiento total de los modos de producción y consumo de la era Haber-Bosch e involucra estrategias jurídicas, sociales y políticas a todos los niveles, donde el individuo debe reencontrarse como sujeto político y social responsable de la apuesta por una agricultura local, tradicional y orgánica.

English Abstract: Rarely, science and politics have been so nearly linked between each other as in the Haber-Bosch process. The industrial synthesis of nitrogen is the basis of agro-industry and actively participates in the war industry, among other aspects of the economy. This article aims to show what is behind the intensive use of chemical fertilizers produced with this process. The consequences go beyond health and welfare of individuals, reaching to communities and future generations. The alternatives exist and are at hand. However, assuming them represents a total rethinking of the means of production and consumption of Haber-Bosch era and involves legal strategies and social policies at all levels, where the individual must be rediscovered as a political and social responsible subject for the promotion of local, traditional and organic agriculture.
