This article reviews the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) and how the expiration of its exemption on the mandatory retirement provisions for firefighters is likely to affect the retirement patterns of a large midwestern urban fire department. The implementation of health and fitness tests for all firefighters is also addressed.
