Abstract

English Abstract: Between June 25 and 28, 2009, a singular meeting took place. Twenty-one women and men, commons advocates and scholars from around the world, met in Crottorf, Germany, to discover and build bridges between their areas and initiatives. The event, which aimed to promote a strategically-minded debate, was conceived and organized by Massimo de Angelis, David Bollier, Silke Helfrich and Stefan Meretz. Although without parity, the gathering included: four continents; rich and poor countries; enthusiasts of digital technology's potential, enthusiasts and critics of technoscience; activists (affiliated with several groups, from the World Social Forum to sustainability movements) and academics (historians, economists, lawyers, philosophers, information scientists...); advocates of Marxist, environmentalist, feminist, anti-capitalist thought (as well as the thought according to which commons can coexist with some kind of market economy) - many shades of left-wing political thought. As was to be expected, this diversity sometimes gave rise to conflicts, undoubtedly very productive for the dialogue that was established. This is a reflexive account of the main discussions undertaken in this meeting.
