Abstract

A defining characteristic of the Michigan Court of Appeals is its large central research staff. This anecdotal history of the research staff was written on the occasion of the court's 50th anniversary. It provides a first-hand account of how the court came to employ what became the largest research staff of any appellate court in the country and a model for other appellate courts struggling with expanding caseloads.

Keywords: courts, appeals, staff
