What is different about Innovation in the 21st Century? This paper examines three companys' approaches to competing in the fast-moving smartphone and telecommunications sector (2003-2013). Two divergent views of innovation are emphasised; the profit-maximising and value-creation aspects of innovation. Lessons for Managers are suggested from a value-creation orientation.
