This is the text of a keynote address delivered at the First NLSIU Alumni Worldwide Conference 2015 on "Legal Services, Legal Education and the State of the Profession: Emerging Challenges" on April 25, 2015 at the National Law School of India University, Bangalore, India.

It begins with a key question: what would the landscape of the legal sector look like in 2020? In order to answer this, it is possible to analyze present trends affecting the legal sector and look at their long-term implications so as to make some educated guesses. In doing so, the address identifies three distinctive trends we are currently experiencing, which are also likely to shape our future. They are: (i) globalization, (ii) the technology revolution; and emanating in a sense from the first two, (iii) the unbundling of legal services. The address deals with each of these three trends in detail, and examines the opportunities they open up and the challenges they pose.
