Abstract

In international criminal law circles today, the term "legacy" is pervasive. However, the word is typically undefined. In this chapter, I attempt to offer a new definition of legacy. Although developed in the context of the first comprehensive scholarly assessment of the possible impact of the United Nations-backed Special Court for Sierra Leone, this understanding of legacy may be a useful starting point for the discussion of the "legacy" of other current and future international criminal courts.
