Abstract

The reductionism undergirding modern science not only fails to explain reality but also—because it doesn’t accord with reality—perpetuates individual, societal, and environmental conflict. This reductionism is based on a strict either-or logic that has always been possible as a normative tool and employed in discordant times. By bridging the whole and the parts, Daoism eliminates the need for an independent or unknowable first-mover and also explains this reductionism. It shows that pure logic is complementary and exists always in a monistic-dualistic relationship with intuition. In the face of the current theoretical and practical challenges, any way forward must consider the subtle explanation offered by Daoism.
