Abstract

This report presents the application of a regional ocean circulation model to simulate current conditions and mid-term projections of climate variability in the Mediterranean Sea. On the basis of IPCC-AR5 climate projections and previous projects findings, a detailed analysis of the available external forcing data was carried out to define the most up-to-date scenarios for the investigation period (2000-2050). A synthesis of the results obtained with the regional model for current and future climate is provided, by focusing on the state of the seawater temperature and salinity for specific marine regions of the Mediterranean Sea.

Keywords: Mediterranean, climate scenario, general circulation model, RCP8.5
