Strategizing Poverty Reduction at City Level: The Approach of Hyderabad

Abstract

Poverty reduction strategies are made at national and state level but not at sub-national levels i.e., provinces/regions and cities, which is a missing element of urban and regional development. This paper discusses the need for multi-pronged approach to urban poverty reduction in general and the specific context of Hyderabad city. It then proposes a city poverty reduction strategy for Hyderabad in terms of the major strategic levers, actions and details. It also proposed a time plan for the implementation of the strategy in a time bound manner for getting results.
