Abstract

India has the second largest population in the world and with its birth rate being greater than that of China; the country's population will cross China's by 2028. This could be a problem if the population remains unskilled but at the same times it gives us an opportunity to reap the demographic dividend by instilling right kind of skills to this huge population. Our population is expected to reach 165 crore by 2050, so we need to plan for better lifestyle of this huge population. As we will be requiring about 1650 GW of installed capacity of electricity to fulfil the increased demand of the world largest population we should shift to renewable energy very rapidly. The present paper lays emphasis on renewable energy skill development to cater to this ever increasing demand for energy. Our Power Sector Skill Council should make it a focus area to improve the renewable energy skill so that we can have clean, sustainable and affordable energy in the coming times with minimum CO2 emission.
