Abstract

In this paper, I have contemplated the place and role of a Welfare State, and have presented basic policy recommendations in order to enhance the role of a Welfare State. I refer to Social Security and the State, the origin of a Welfare State, roles of the State, especially minimal interventions of the State in liberalism, poverty and income inequality, the debate over a Welfare State, as well as U.S. inequality trends and the U.S. Welfare State. I also refer to the main thinkers in the Welfare State debate: Pierre-Joseph Proudhon, John Rawls, and Robert Nozick. The central part of my paper is occupied by policy recommendations, which I have dealt with in part 10 of my paper.

Keywords: Welfare State, Inequality, Social Security
