Spanish Abstract: Comentamos la relevancia actual de la teoría de la asociación de las ideas de Locke en su 'Ensayo sobre el entendimiento humano', y su desarrollo en la psicología de Herbert Spencer, comparándolas con el tratamiento dado al mismo fenómeno mental en las teorías neurológicas de Ramón y Cajal, Hebb, y otros.

English Abstract: This paper examines the current relevance Locke's theory of the association of ideas as presented in his 'Essay concerning human understanding', and its development in Herbert Spencer's psychology, comparing these with the treatment given to the same phenomenon in the neurological theories of Ramón y Cajal, Hebb, and others.
