Abstract

What are we to make of “The Field Bazaar”? Is it just a joke told for charity by Arthur Conan Doyle, or is it an oddly short canonical Sherlock Holmes story? Reasonable minds have differed. Fortunately, the mere mapping of the story need not (and does not here) involve taking a position on the question. For additions and improvements to the material printed here, read the 2016 Green Bag Almanac & Reader.
