Abstract

This sentencing review provides an overview of the key developments in sentencing law in Australia in 2014-15. In particular, it focuses on recent and proposed changes to the availability of suspended sentences in Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia and Tasmania. It also provides a detailed examination of the Victorian Court of Appeal's first guideline judgment, Boulton v. The Queen [2014] VSCA 342, and the impact of the decision.
