Abstract

This work is the result of research on public administration and social networks. It aims to discuss in in what sense the analysis of profiles in digital social networks can provide the further development of the democratic process. It builds on the following question: virtual social media enable the strengthening of an information culture? The study analyzed five government profiles (Special Secretariat for Women - SPMulheres; Ministry of Agrarian Development - MDA, Ministry of Planning and Budget - MOP, Ministry of Social Development - MDS and the Special Secretariat for Racial Equality Promotion - SEPPIR), by using tools developed for this research, and supported in the literature to use the following concepts transparency, accountability, control and social participation, information culture and democracy online. Conclusively, the job search to answer the issues raised above and highlights a new set of issues that may be useful for future research on the topic information technologies and social development.
