Abstract

This short paper presents the authors reflections on his first 18 months working in an Aboriginal legal aid organisation in the Northern Territory of Australia. Included are descriptions of circuit or 'bush' courts; comments on sentencing practice and discussion of recent legislative expansion of powers of arrest and detention.
