Abstract
Independent and reliable official statistics are a public good in democratic, information-based economies. It is important for the public to be able to use statistics to make sense of the changes they know from experience and from the media to be taking place in their societies. The digital changes under way in advanced economies make it essential for economic statistics can catch up with the emerging structure of the economy the economy.
