Abstract

This study tries to prove effective power of art for peace and investigates efforts of artists to build peace with their works. Character of art as an instrument of communication is evaluated and role of art in problematic world of modern age as an instrument of communication. The most serious problem of our age is violence, and many people have tried to find solutions to violence and wars. People hope to live without conflicts and want to live in a peacefully world. Peace means conflictless life and also to live in smoothly and humanistic world. Peace is not concerned with only policy but concerned with all people and with all life. Artists are particularly concerned about violence and wars and struggle hard for peace, with some of their efforts achieving their purpose. In recent years, many art festivals in Turkey and abroad have taken peace as their theme, and numerous artists have produced artworks for peace. Indeed, as one of the foremost forms of communication, art can be a means for mobilising people, and artworks are particularly effective for convincing people of the need for, and benefits of, peace and peaceful coexistence.
