Abstract
Nationality is and important element of the national-state, emerged from the French Revolution of 1789 and marked the end of the absolutism regime. In Brazil, with the arrival of the Portuguese Royal Family in 1808, and like other Latin American countries, the reality is no different as their respective constitutions adopted, in most cases, the nationality matrices of the colonizing countries (Spain and Portugal). The present article examines the institution of the citizenship in the Brazilian Constitution of 1988.
