Abstract
We analyze historical trend of energy intensity for 115 countries in the world between 1980 and 2011. The variation of energy intensities has been extremely wide among these countries throughout the period. We use experience curve to estimate progress ratio of energy intensity for each country. The averaged progress ratio for the total sample is 89.07%. We also estimate the average progress ratios of 102.64% and 83.3% respectively for the subgroup of 34 countries represented by classical experience curve and for the other subgroup of 81 remaining countries represented by kinked experience curve. The best performing averaged progress ratio of 78.29% is estimated for the subgroup of 17 European countries. Implications from these findings are discussed.
