Abstract

Romanian Abstract: Perioada patristică este considerată o eră formativă a creștinismului, care se extinde din jurul anului 100 până în anul 800 d. Hr. Când vorbim de era „formativă” ne referim, în contextul acestei lucrări, la disputele doctrinare ale unor scriitori, filozofi, teologi, preoți etc. creștini, de regulă cunoscuți ca Părinții bisericești, care urmăreau să înțeleagă și să clarifice pentru posteritate elementele credinței apostolice. Așadar, formulările lor în cadrul celor șapte Sinoade ecumenice sunt afirmații doctrinare sau dogmatice menite să transmită credința ortodoxă, adică dogma sau doctrina corectă și, în consecință, normativă pentru toți cei ce se socotesc creștini.

English Abstract: The historical and theological survey of the available data offered by primary sources has yielded sufficient ground to argue that the Apostolic Fathers and Early Church Fathers had contributed, in a significant fashion, to the formation of a Trinitarian understanding of God by the end of the 3rd century A. D. Their Trinitarian vocabulary has to be seen as a major stepping stone towards the crystalisation of the Niceean Creed (325 A. D.). This is to say that the Creed testifies to an understanding of the Trinitarian relationship of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit that has been articulated in the language and vocabulary of the Early / Apostolic Fathers. The study has evidenced that a clear chronologically viable ontological anteriority within the Godhead may be seen as being suggested by the Early Fathers’ language of “eternal generation”, “begotten-ness” and “procession”, a language the Niceean Fathers have taken over and deployed in the wording of the Creed.
