Abstract

The changing dynamics of business environment due to information and communication technology revolution are fundamentally changing the world of postal and courier service industry. New services and new modes of delivering existing services have increased the complexities of the operations and functions of postal and courier service organisations which calls for Business Process Reengineering (BPR) as a means of transition to a new digital realm. This study explored the effect of BPR on performance Courier Service Organizations in Anambra State. The study employed descriptive research design. Data were obtained from primary sources and were analysed using Principal Component Analysis and Multiple Regression Analysis. The result of the analysis revealed that there was a significant relationship between BPR factors (change management, process redesign, management commitment, and IT infrastructure) and overall organisational performance of the selected Courier Service Organisations. Based on the finding, the study concluded that BPR is a vital model for improvement in firms’ operational performance and achievement of long term growth and competitive advantage. It is recommended that for BPR to serve as effective tool for organizations’ renewal and transformation, IT strategy must be aligned with organisations’ business strategies, training and education of employees on newly introduced operational processes.
