The paper introduces a general purpose prototype able to dynamically generate visually enriched routes starting from simple input data as start, stop, intermediary coordinates, and a feed-back e-mail address. The results are portable documents (.pdfs) with many pages, each having info about the current location, a 2D map and a 3D image captured from and linked to the interactive Street View navigation mode of Google Maps. The possible uses start from the familiarization with a certain traveling or distribution route up to preparation of city breaks, learning to travel and drive in a less familiar city in a short amount of time or even virtual tourism. Some other advantages resulting from this paper are related to the speed of use compared to the time-consuming direct use of the Street View mode and the animation effect at scroll in the presentation mode of most .pdf viewers.
Few present limitations of this system which derive from the technology it uses, most of them related to the number of operations in an amount of time are also mentioned in the article.
