Abstract

Abstract by B. Goswami: “This article is to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the 1967 Outer Space Treaty which laid down a priori a fundamental legal principle of freedom of exploration and use of outer space by all States. On this occasion one should while praising the success of diplomacy and statesmanship of those involved in drafting of the treaty, also critically comment on the legal gaps that have arisen from the implementation and interpretation of the Treaty. This text (presentation) identifies such crucial gaps and issues which need to be addressed in near future for continuing to use the outer space peacefully with advent of new players and advanced space technologies. In the end, conclusion and suggestions as to the need of revision or replacement to the Outer Space Treaty are expressed.”
