Abstract

Private practitioners who represent clients receiving public benefits need to be aware of the effects that certain outcomes in a legal case may have on a client's ability to continuing receiving those public benefits. This article briefly discusses some of those effects with regard to public or subsidized housing, Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), food stamps, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), and Medicaid benefits.
