Abstract
Providing a critique of contesting discourses on gender in contemporary Turkey, this symposium article argues that discourses about gender in Turkey are still informed by myths and epics of liberty and salvation -- whether such liberty and salvation comes from Kemalism, religion, or different notions of secularism.
