Abstract

Despite its huge importance, the issue of youth-to-parent violence has received minimal attention from researchers. It is safe to say that adolescent-to-parent violence is the most under-researched form of family abuse. This paper explores the contours of the problem of adolescent to parent violence, exploring how it is defined, experienced and negotiated by parents and adolescents and how violent assaults committed by adolescents within the home can affect parents and their wellbeing. The paper concludes that parent abuse is more complex form of family violence and bears more quandaries for justice than domestic violence.

Keywords: Adolescent to parent violence; Youth to parent violence; Domestic violence; Parent abuse; Victims; Adolescents.
