Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to identify which aspects regarding the use of apps through smartphones should be protected in order to secure privacy of users in Mexico. Despite the increasing number of smartphone users actual legislation is not efficiently protecting privacy of smartphones users. We identified that these aspects that are not protected are the outcomes of processing the bulk of personal data, such as profiles, biographies, classifications and ideas about the user, which can interfere with their privacy sphere. We propose that to adequately protect privacy; apps must provide users with additional information: they will have no control over the outcomes mentioned and will have the same minimum rights concerning personal data. However, users will have the right to know if a bulk of data is generating outcomes that could interfere on their privacy sphere. In this paper, we describe a theoretical solution to an actual problem that, in the future, will play a more complex role in privacy protection.
