Abstract

The arrest of Merrill Newman on October 26 has been a great shock. What was the reason? So far, nobody seems to be willing to leak any details. We are therefore left to speculation and guesswork. Rather than speculating about what Mr. Newman might have done or what the North Korean authorities might suspect him of having done, it makes more sense to look at previous experiences. These can serve as a guide for your own speculation, though at your own risk.
