Abstract

English Abstract: After the recommendation of a higher market risk premium in 2012 by the Institute of Public Auditors in Germany, Incorporated Association (IDW) the question aroused if the premium is time-dependent or stable and if so determined by which factors. In this article the term "market risk premium" is explained and its value is highlighted from an economical point of view. As the market risk premium is by definition the difference between expected return of the market portfolio and the risk-free rate it cannot arbitrarily be altered. While the assumptions of daily changes of risk-free rates linked with a constant expected return of the market portfolio and a constant market risk premium is inconsistent the assumptions of constant values is consistent in a long-term point of view and justifiable in a long-term stable economic framework.
