Abstract

Jewelry is the lovely manifestation of man’s imagination and creativity which symbolizes the ethnic culture and heritage of mankind and represents as one of the most invaluable constituents of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH). It is one of the effective means of symbolic communications of the socio-cultural life of human beings and is known as the living cultural heritage of mankind. The present paper gives understanding of various dimensions of studying ethnic jewelry and highlights the significance of jewelry in cross-cultural perspective exploring its origin, history, development, designs, patterns and functional relevance.
