Abstract

Portuguese Abstract: Vivemos numa “sociedade de risco”, no sentido de ser uma sociedade incerta, embebida num constante e acelerado devir, em que se torna crescentemente desafiante assegurar o bem-estar (e, quiçá, a própria subsistência) das gerações futuras . Foi neste cenário que a noção de “responsabilidade intergeracional” enveredou por um difícil – e ainda longínquo – caminho de transição do domínio da reflexão ética, empírica e filosófica para uma tentativa de densificação normativa, não apenas no plano interno dos Estados, mas igualmente no plano internacional.

English Abstract: We live in a "risk society" in the sense of being an uncertain society, embedded in a constant and accelerated drive, in which it becomes increasingly challenging to ensure the well-being (and, perhaps, the very subsistence) of the future generations. It was in this context that the notion of "intergenerational responsibility" went through a difficult - and still distant - transition from the domain of ethical, empirical and philosophical reflection to an attempt at normative densification, not only at the internal level of States, but also at the International level.
