Abstract
Contracts are undergoing fundamental changes. New technology and new design are transforming the look and feel of contracts, and entirely new contract genres are being born. Smart, self-enforcing contracts promise to disrupt how contracts are made and executed. This paper illustrates how the world of contracting is embracing the transformation away from purely textual contracts to completely new genres. After exploring the different users of contracts we propose a continuum and categorisation of the emerging genres and conclude with a vision of more functional, useful, and usable contracts.
