Significance of Uniform in Hotel Operations: A Case Study with Special Emphasis to Food and Beverage Division

The uniform that the staff wears with honor and pride will also be carried with same love and care. In order to make the food service business look more professional when customers check-in at a restaurant, the dressing should be smart and elegant. This research has put focus on the importance of thoughtfully designed uniforms for the service personnel and how does it plays a great role in overall branding and positioning of the organization. Employees appropriately dressed in matching uniforms can influence the making of the first impression about the place.
“The service professionals in uniform feel that they are an integral part of a team, which can foster a sense of pride in their jobs and organization. As the defense personnel or sports teams feel pride and honour in their uniform and feel a sense of team spirit, similarly for the restaurant business uniform is one of the means to imbibe a sense of equality in the team, which in turn can enhance the team spirit and hence overall efficiency”. (Chand, Uniform Matters in Food Service, 2015).
The research findings are based on interviews with senior hospitality professionals based on the standard questionnaire wherein the professionals were asked to share their experience regarding the significance of uniform. Excerpts of the professionals are cited in the research paper.
I had discussions with some experienced hospitality professionals and got their views on the trends in uniforms in the food service industry and also about the various factors to be considered while choosing the correct uniform and the challenges in selecting the right uniform.
