Abstract

This paper addresses the following hitherto unstudied question in rangeland management: How should a range manager - who is interested in the ecological and the economic aspects of management - set the temporal control optimally for rangelands that are managed with short duration grazing? We use a dynamic and stochastic framework to first derive the range manager's long run average net cost function. We then show that the optimal temporal control minimizes this objective function.
