Abstract

Westaim Surface Engineered Products (SEP) has developed a new generation of coated tubes and fittings with high resistance to coking, carburization and hot erosion. Laboratory and pilot pyrolysis plant test results were presented at the 10th Ethylene Producers Conference in March 1998. Commercial results at Williams Olefins’ Geismar, Louisiana plant were presented at the 11th Ethylene Producers Conference in March 1999. This paper describes additional performance results from 13 coated furnaces in commercial operation. Results will be given for a broad variety of commercial furnace types as well as a variety of feedstocks including Ethane, Propane and Naphtha. Performance results show significant improvements in run-time, throughput, and ethylene yield in all furnace types and feedstocks. This improved performance results in increased plant throughput and significant economic benefits to ethylene producers.
