Creating a Growth Portfolio
Creating a portfolio of growth initiatives (Growth Portfolio) is a critical process in the quest for growth. This technical note is the fourth in a series focusing on business growth. The first, “Growth Is the Dynamic Confluence of Strategy, Entrepreneurship, and Values,” examined what we know about business growth and challenged the commonly held beliefs about growth and introduced Smart Growth, a new research-based growth model. The second technical note, “Growth Is Much More Than Just a Strategy: It's a System,” focused on the necessity of aligning strategy, culture, structure, HR policies and processes, leadership behaviors, and measurements and rewards to enable and promote growth behaviors and processes within an organization. The third technical note, “Learning Launches: Doing Growth Experiments,” outlined a key growth process. This technical note, the final in this series, addresses how to create a diversified Growth Portfolio based on the Learning Launch experiments.
Growth requires several key elements—the right individuals and organizational mindsets, the right internal enabling System, and the right processes, which include experimental learning and creating and managing Growth Portfolios.
