Abstract
Besides reporting on almost all developments surrounding the fall of the Hungarian Real Estate Investment Cooperatives, it tries to answer whether a US-type open-end definition of 'security' would have been a panacea against such pyramid and Ponzi schemes in emerging markets. It also canvasses the key pertaining features of the then applicable Hungarian laws and regulations.
