Abstract

This discussion paper delineates the potential roles that a new Parliamentary Budget Office (PBO) can play, and considers the scope for the work of the PBO in an OECD country with an existing structure and systems for (1) legislative engagement with the budget process, and (2) budgetary and fiscal analysis. The discussion paper asserts that a PBO can contribute meaningfully to the transparency and accountability of the Irish budget process.
