Abstract

The first part of the article explains why the GMO marketing authorisation has become a very contentious matter. It emphasises the centralisation of the procedural arrangements that have been reducing the regulatory powers of the Member States. Against this backdrop, the second part assesses the scope and the effects of the changes recently introduced through Directive 2015/412 amending Directive 2001/18/EC on the deliberate release into the environment of GMOs.

Keywords: GMOs, deliberate release into the environment of GMOs, EU marketing authorisation procedures, Restrictions to cultivation
