Abstract

There is a growing consensus in Western Australia (WA), driven by the opposition party in the WA legislature, on the creation of a Parliamentary Budget Office (PBO) at the state level. This discussion paper raises some of the salient considerations vis-a-vis the role, function, and purpose of such an office in WA’s fiscal context, particularly in light of the ended ‘mining boom.’
